Mikkeller Berlin is one of my favorite beer bars in Berlin, hands down. Serving as the Berlin outpost of the Danish brewery Mikkeller, the bar is located near to Rosenthaler Platz in Mitte (but just far enough down the street that it doesn’t have the same hectic atmosphere). They have a varied selection of beers on their 24 taps, mostly Mikkeller products but a few guest features as well. Though there’s no bar menu per se, often there are food-related events held. Recently, The Sausage Man Never Sleeps ran a Sunday brunch and we are looking forward to checking out visiting chef Daniel Morgan’s creations through mid-March. The decor is coolly modern; the white brick walls & green lacquered floor dominate but the rough wood tables with candlesticks make the space feel more homely than most bars. I love the large-scale framed posters of works done by Keith Shore, Mikkeller’s art director and illustrator. Entering feels like a breath of fresh air (especially since the bar is happily smoke-free). Additionally, most bars in Berlin don’t open until evening time, so it’s great to have a place where you can relax with a small beer in the late afternoon.
